Parent/School Communication

Communication between home and school is important to me as the principal at BHPS and I am confident that our systems and processes are efficient.

COMPASS is the primary communication tool at our school that is used to communicate all information. Please ensure that you have access to your Compass Log in details. These can be checked or reset at the school office at anytime.
Compass has many functions including recording attendance, accessing reports and learning task information about your child as well as accessing or being guided to important information on our website. Most information will be posted on Thursdays which is newsletter day.

FACEBOOK is also accessible via the Barwon Heads Primary School (official page). This is NOT our primary source of communication but will be used to capture moments in real time at special events like; excursions, camps, student work and school functions. We may also repeat some of the Compass Posts on our Facebook page to raise awareness and maximise the opportunity for information to be seen.

Each student is provided with a “Student Diary” that is checked by the classroom teacher regularly. This traditional form of communication is still effective and used by our school.

We also encourage parents to contact the school via email, phone or in person if they need support in resolving a query.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Parent Teacher Interviews are an important item on the BHPS Calendar. Interviews are held twice per year:

Initial “Getting to know you,” interviews between teacher and parent that occur in week 3 of term 1 each year. The purpose of this interview is for the parent to meet the teacher and relay any important information that will help the teacher support your child throughout the school year.

Interviews at the end of term 2 or start of term 3 to discuss the mid semester report, hear the teacher’s plan for your child, share your thoughts and listen to your child share some of their successes. Interview bookings are made via Compass, parents will be notified by a Compass post when booking times are available to be selected.

Student Reports

Student reporting at Barwon Heads PS is a thorough process that captures a student’s progress using a variety of methods that are explained in the “BHPS Reporting Information for Parents.” This document can be found by clicking link 1 below. Link 2 are instructions to access the information about your child. this is an example and dates will need to be changed each semester. the instructions are the same.
