It is an exciting day at school today, the highlight being the Prep students performing their musical finale after a term with High Voltage rock school. It is always a pleasure to see the students having so much fun and connecting to music during these sessions.
Congratulations also goes out to our debaters who have shown effort, commitment and flexible thinking throughout the year. With the support from our staff and each other, the group has been able to qualify one team for the final.
2020 Planning is well underway and so far we have 58 preps enrolled and a few families notifying the school that they will be moving to other places next year. It is important for families to complete prep enrolments urgently as it will only be a few weeks into term 4 before we start transition opportunities.
A final reminder to send through any information that you would like us to know or remember to assist in forming 2020 class groups.
Part of the planning is to develop a class structure for the year, that considers a number of factors with 2020 having a mix of composite and straight classes. I will publish the final structure early next term, but can confirm that our Preps and year 6’s will be straight grades next year.
Term 4 is always a busy term for the students and staff, and in particular our Year 6 students leading into their final weeks of primary school. I look forward to their last term and hope that they enjoy what the term brings especially their graduation.
The year 5 students will participate in a leadership program that creates an opportunity for them to design and develop the leadership roles that are the right fit for them as a group and as individuals. Part of this is to discover who our school captains will be for 2020.
The process for deciding who the Captains will be is as follows:
1. Students develop a criteria for the qualities of School Captain
2. Students, Teachers (year 5/6), Daniel and Ms Booth select 4 students that meet this criteria.
3. Information is collated and a tentative shortlist developed.
4. Candidates are informed of their shortlisting
At this point the shortlisted candidates will complete a series of tasks that will be used to highlight their character strengths, to assist in making a final decision that is endorsed and ratified by me at the end of the process.
Finally, a reminder that Friday 20/09/2019 is the last day for the term. There are some changes of times for the day:
Whole School Assembly: 9:15am
Dismissal: 2:30pm
School Grounds During holidays
You should have received information regarding soil remediation works that will occur over the holidays. It is important that you read this to ensure that OHS standards are met during these works. The school will be closed to the public until the works are complete. A compass Post will be sent out as a separate reminder.
I hope that you enjoy the break with your families. See you when school returns on Monday 7th October 2019
