To The School Community,

Since my last bulletin that only seemed like yesterday, we have been busy in the lead up to the end of the term.

Our staff have been putting in the hard yards to keep you informed about student learning via our conference notes, the upcoming semester reports and parent-teacher information session. Please be sure to book a time to see your child’s teacher using Compass to make bookings.

The layers to our reporting process include the Conference Note Cycle, Semester Reports and Parent Teacher Information Session needs to be treated as a complete package not as isolated elements.

1. Conference Notes – are completed by teachers who with your child generate goals for positive education, reading writing and maths to keep you updated about key areas of learning specific to your child.
2. Semester Reports – will give you an assessment of your child’s progress on the continuum related to the Victorian Curriculum and include core curriculum areas including specialist subject areas.
3. Parent/Teacher Information Session- is designed to discuss any elements of the report and conference notes for clarity. Your child will have the opportunity to share some of there successes as well. Teachers may also discuss other areas like attendance, effort or behaviour.

This week I would like to acknowledge our Business Manager, Tracy Davey. For many years now Tracy has shown commitment to our school community in her role and plays an important part in the running of our school.

Tracy is a person who demonstrates a Love of Learning in all that she does and recently she graduated from Deakin University with a Graduate Certificate in Education Business Leadership. Achievements like this need to be celebrated and shared in our community and I hope that our students can continue to strive for a love of learning beyond their school years as Tracy has done.

School Councillor Elisa Scalise has kindly shared a short blurb in the first of a series from our School Councillors:

My name is Elisa, and this is my second year on School Council. I joined the council so that I could learn more about how the school makes decisions and so I could get involved in helping this school continue to be a welcoming and responsive learning environment. My children, Pietro (grade 1) and Rosa (foundation), joke that the council is the boss of Daniel and the teachers, and they find that idea pretty funny. In some ways they are onto something: our job on council is to help the school be as good as it can be, bringing diverse perspectives and experiences of parents into the decision-making processes. For example, in our last meeting, we discussed the upcoming family golf-day and how we might prioritise the use of funds that are raised, and we also discussed some potential changes to the grade 1 and grade 2 camp next year. Overall, being on school council is a rewarding experience for me and I am grateful to be part of it.

Enjoy the rest of the week – remember to check our Compass and Website Calendar for upcoming events.
