To The School Community

This week, a shorter week with the Labour Day public holiday behind us, has been a busy one at BHPS to say the least. Our busiest weeks at school usually coincide with special events and our involvement in the Festival of the Sea has been no different.

The opportunities the Festival of the Sea brings to our school is another fine example of how we connect to our community and environment. Many of our students have participated in learning opportunities throughout this week ranging from photography sessions, science sessions from the team at Barwon Coast and Parks Victoria and activities during our Science and Art lessons at school.

The culminating activities for the Festival of the Sea are this Friday a Film Festival from 8pm – 9:30 between the Rotunda and At the Heads screening the Student Film about the Barwon Estuary Project.

On Saturday  student Art Work is being displayed during the Sunset by the Sea sessions from 6 pm. During this time, you will be able to listen to live music, view pop up projections of films and of course take in the sunset over the river. It would be great for our families to support this wonderful event.

Student Reporting

Reporting at our school will be taking a different direction in 2019 moving away from the learning task model. During this term the Year Level Team Leaders and staff have been working together, to develop a system to share your students learning with you during the school year with term two kicking off the new system.

To help you understand what this looks like you will receive a Compass Post before the end of the term with an example of the model that we will use moving forward. Look out for this during the last week of term. See below for the reporting sequence that the teachers will follow:

I look forward to developing this new model with the staff and supporting parents/guardians in understanding their child’s progress. We are proud of heading in this direction as a staff and believe that this form of reporting will be more meaningful than our previous efforts. Remember that the model above is a complete package that supports the reporting process and exceeds the requirements set by the DET.

Bike Safety

A quick update – This issue has taken positive steps since my last bulletin. The Bellarine Police and City of Greater Geelong have become more actively involved in supporting our community in creating a safer situation for our students. In the meantime those who are riding with their kids please be actively engaged in encourage the students to ride safely and report any near misses that may occur. If you have any feedback or ideas for me to take with me to my meeting next week please email me directly vella.daniel.c@edumail.vic.gov.au
