To The School Community,
I write this Blog Post with a focus on what is a very important day in the history of our country, Remembrance Day.
For those who were able to attend assembly, you would agree that the year 4 students were able to demonstrate how we can connect to the events of the past. Their teamwork, open-mindedness and creativity came to the fore in their student-led ceremony that was a culmination of learning that took place in the classroom. What stood out most to me though was the friendship and connection between the students and Tony Wheal from the Barwon Heads and Ocean Grove RSL.
It was a reminder of the importance of connecting with others and tapping into their expertise and passion to add value to the student’s experiences at school. We are grateful that we have opportunities like this for our students who really make the most of it! Well done to all involved!
Enrolments for 2019 continue to grow with a number of year 2 students enrolling during this week pushing numbers up in the year 2 classes. this has led to a commitment to changing the structure to have year ½ composite classes to ensure even numbers that are either 21 or 22 students rather than 25 or 26 with the increased enrolments. The staff are aware of this situation and have embraced the change after considering all factors.
Next week are the first of our transition sessions – Wednesday at 2:30 where all students will experience a Step Up program in preparation for the 2019 school year. Over the next 2 sessions, students will be with different teachers and mixed groupings with the final transition day being with the group that is likely to be their class in 2019. Teachers for your child will be communicated in the last week of school.
I would like to thank the year 5 students and staff as well as the prep team for organising the year 5 visits to the kindergartens where our students were able to meet our new Foundation ( Prep Students).
Enjoy the weekend and I hope that I see as many of you as possible at the Remembrance Day ceremony on Sunday at 10:30 at the Barwon Heads Community Hall.
