To the School Community
I would like to welcome the students and their families back to school for the second semester of the year.
The students have shared many holiday stories about trips away to warm places as well as trips to the snow while many enjoyed staying home enjoying what the Bellarine has to offer. I appreciate the effort families make to provide their children opportunities to have amazing experiences that build their world knowledge which students refer to and build on in their experiences at school.
BEFORE SCHOOL CARE
This year, in response to feedback from parents I have worked closely with Camp Australia to secure a trial of Before School Care at Barwon Heads Primary School. The service began this week, with small steps being taken with 1 or 2 students attending each morning.
I would like to again remind you that the service is available and I look forward to seeing it develop for our community.
PARENT OPINION SURVEY
The Parent Opinion Survey has been distributed to a random sample of families to respond to over the next few weeks. If you received the survey information on Tuesday or Wednesday I encourage you to participate as it supports the school in understanding parent opinion and improving in areas that triangulate with the Student Attitude and staff opinion surveys.
ENROLMENTS
Enrolments for 2019 are in full swing with more than 50 preps already enrolled for next year. This shows how organised our community is and we are appreciative of the efforts made by families to visit the school in the lead up to their children starting. Please remember to enrol ASAP to assist us in getting organised for our transition program later in the year.
I would like to welcome new families to the school with 11 new students starting on the first day of this term. The Steward, Selkrig, Eden, Bruniges, Davis and Strachan families all starting this term. I would like to congratulate the students on making such a positive start to their time at BHPS.
COMPASS INFO SESSION
Last term we offered an opportunity for the school community to learn more about Compass – our main source of communication – unfortunately we weren’t able to get enough people to the event an as promised we will be offering an afterschool opportunity for those who are interested.
Topics being covered will be: Calendar Dates, News, Events, Notifications, Attendance, Reports and Learning Tasks. We will also field questions from the floor that we will try to answer of follow up if we can’t.

WEBSITE BLOG
I will share some of my views and summarise some reading I have completed about FRIENDSHIPS and how they develop at school. This came about this week in discussions with staff members who were supporting a group of students to connect positively to each other.
It is also topical given the large number of new students we have starting this term. Parents and school have a significant role to play in supporting children in understanding how friendships work and develop including recognising the ups and downs that friends sometimes have. Look out for the Blog Post in the school website that will be published sometime on Friday!!
Please remember to check the Compass or Website Calendar for important dates
