From Daniel’s Desk

To The School Community,

Firstly I would like to congratulate the students on a job well done this year so far. They have been the driving force behind the success of many new initiatives that have been implemented in 2018.

Peer Mediators and the Bystander training have been the highlight with students developing their problem solving strategies and character strengths when resolving situations where there is difference of opinion or an incident has occurred. The data around the success of these initiatives is promising with an increase in the perception of safety and positive behaviours at our school. The students should be commended on their behaviours.

The music program goes from strength to strength. The students have again demonstrated that they are engaged in and value the introduction of music this year. The Prep and year 1 students along with the year 5 and 6 bands, with the help of their teachers and musicians from High Voltage Rock School, put on a spectacular show on Tuesday evening. Congratulations to all involved. The year 3 and 5 students will participate in the program during term 3 with a concert date in the final week of term 3.

Thanks to all families for their participation in the parent teacher interviews held during this week. The staff are always appreciative of the level of engagement the families have in the education of their children. I hope that you found the discussions informative helping you understand your child’s achievements and areas for improvement for the remainder of the year.

School Council
School Council met this week in what was a productive meeting.
Some of the conversations and discussions were:

  1. The school BYOD program and the use of IPADS – School Council and the Staff at BHPS are committed to the use of IPADS as part of the curriculum at BHPS. The Education sub-committee of School Council will discuss elements of the program and with the staff will develop a communication strategy that supports parents in understanding the vision of the program and how it meets the compulsory requirements of the Victorian Curriculum. Please keep an eye out for information sessions and documentation during term 3.
  2. Introduction of Before School Care at BHPS. Students will have access to before school care through Camp Australia from 6:30 – 8:30 am. The year 5/6 open space will be used to provide this care. See attached info to this post.
  3. Working Bee – A working bee will be held the weekend starting Saturday 14th of September. More details to come soon.
  4. We also discussed the grounds master plan developed in 2015. School Council is exploring opportunities to fund this project with a scope of works being developed to provide an opportunity to properly quote stages of the works. We are also in discussions with Wautherong to connect this project to concepts related to the indigenous history of our geographic area. Stay tuned for more about this initiative.
