Hello everybody and welcome back to school for 2018. I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and tell you a little bit about our LOTE program for 2018. Last year I worked in the Grade One level and this year have been given the opportunity to run our LOTE program in a different format. The program will be known as Cultural Studies and students will have lessons every three weeks. The Prep to Grade 4 students will be learning about a different country each term, (Listed below), and explore its culture and language.
Term 1 – France
Term 2 – Japan
Term 3 – Spain
Term 4 – Italy
Grade 5/6 students will do it a bit differently. They will be given a choice of countries/languages they would like to study further, (e.g one they may study in secondary school) and complete a project over the year in pairs. They will research information about their country/culture and use resources such as Duo Lingo to guide them in creating dialogue to give directions for travel/solve a problem. By the end of the year, students will present their dialogue to their peers in small groups.
